"Sri Shanmukhananda Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi Auditorium", has been and continues to be venue for some of the finest cultural events and programmes in the performing arts. It has been patronised by large bodies such as the New York Philharmonic Orchestra by Zubin Mehta, and by many renowned artists the likes of Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Ustad Bismillah Khan, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, M.S. Subbalakshmi, Lata Mangeshkar, Pandit Ravi Shankar, Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar, Amjad Ali Khan, M.L Vasantha kumari, Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, Lalgudi Jayaraman and others. There is hardly any acclaimed artists who hasn't performed here.

Though, unfortunately the auditorium was destroyed in devastating fire in 1990, it has long been resurrected rising from the ashes like a phoenix.

The auditorium is one of the finest examples of structural engineering and architectural aesthetics working in perfect unison, to synthesis and recreate the moods, melodies and drama of the performing artists. What's more, the arrangements offer the perfect platform for bussiness empires to conduct seminars, conferences et. al. It can also be used for film screenings. This colossal auditorium has been designed on three tier level.

The auditorium is completely isolated from the areas occupied by music school, medical centre, convention halls, conference rooms, thus the diverse activity can go on simultaneously. More importantly, it has been redesigned, keeping the safety of people uppermost in mind.

The spacious foyers on the first/second floor level of shanmukhananda can easily accomadate about 200 patrons. Various mini conferences and meetings, can be held here along side the larger ones being conducted in the auditorium. The foyers have also been designed in a way that would render them perfect for a modern art gallery.
